Is There Not a Cause?

Updated: Oct 3, 2020

My heart beats, “I can preserve a generation”

The voice of truth affirms, “Joseph, there is no limitation”

I have seen the obeisance of the lights and constellations

I have known the hand of God in my life and vocation

Though envy stares and plots my premature termination

Saying, “let’s see how his dreams come to fruition”

And shackles come from brazen temptation and false accusation

Bragging, “he will never make it out of incarceration”

But integrity and wisdom have assured my preservation

I will persevere till crowned royalty in a foreign nation

Is there not a cause?

My heart says, “I can take this mountain”

The voice of truth assures, “ Caleb, this is certain”

I have seen the fruitful land that drinks heaven’s rain

I have the promise I was given after the spy campaign

Though the question of age thumps my brain

“Will your strength now at eighty-five sustain?”

And the age-long history of giant enemies to contain

Asks if I can make plain the rugged terrain

But I know I can muster, my strength will remain

Unperturbed I march, won’t retreat, won’t refrain

Is there not a cause?

My heart announces, “I can stop this oppression”

The voice of truth declares, “Gideon, this is your commission”

I am drawn by the assurance of victory in this mission

The freedom to life and love, enterprise and motion

Though my clan stands in the least position

“Why change the status quo,” they persecute and question

The wrinkles of scorn and logic on the face of rejection

Invite me to consider the size and arsenal of the opposition

With a company and a half armed with unusual ammunition

Undaunted, I move on with faith and persuasion

Is there not a cause?

My heart muses, “I can make history”

The voice of truth says, “Jephthah, this is for your glory”

I am fed up with the assaults from the adversary

Haven’t I heard how God gave our fathers the victory?

In spite of a skewed and dysfunctional pedigree

Ostracized and abandoned to a life of misery

Beckoned now by those who pushed me out to the boundary

Will my strength suffice to still the enemy’s effrontery?

I was born for this; I may seem like a mystery

I have made my vows; Its time to write a new story

Is there not a cause?

My heart pants, “I can defeat this giant”

The voice of truth urges on, “David, this is your victory chant”

I have seen that with God I am always triumphant

“The rewards are enormous,” say the king’s attendants

Though the skilled and experienced bring up the can't

“What do you know?” they rave and rant

And the giant mocks the stubborn courage of an ant

“I will feed you to the birds and make your people servants”

The bear and the lion I have slain, so I have learnt

Unshaken, this too shall fall, I remain adamant

Is there not a cause?

My heart cries, “I can get the will of the Father done.”

The voice of truth replies, “Jesus, for this you were born”

I know the Father’s passion to have the world’s sin borne

I will make the sacrifice that men may not burn

Though the people I came for laugh me to scorn

Mocking, “We know your history, can you be God’s son?”

Though betrayal and denial seek to get me torn

More severe than wounds from a crown woven with thorn

Still, I press on till absolute victory is won

The redemption plan fully realized on resurrection’s dawn

Is there not a cause?
